Lauren, the Office Manager for North East Accident Repair Centres at Darlington, had previously tried many fitness activities and sports, but she was unable to find anything which truly inspired her to continue.
But there was one sport which was a constant source of interest in her life; Brazilian jiu-jitsu - Lauren was a great supporter of her daughter, who was a keen participant since January 2016. Having undergone radical Gastric Surgery to lose weight four years ago, and in order to maintain her fitness, Lauren's husband suggested she take her spectator interest in their daughter's Brazilian jiu-jitsu training a step further and join in!
And so she did. In June 2016 Lauren took up the sport seriously and began training with The Dungeon BJJ/MMA Academy, and has never looked back. Countless hours of training and dedication saw Lauren enter the Empire Grappling 2 (Gi and No-Gi) #EG2 competition in November 2016, where she won 2 medals.
Her interest in martial arts would appear to know no bounds, as Lauren now participates in traditional jiu-jitsu, in which she is a yellow belt, and also trains in Judo. And with 5 competitions before June, 2017 is going to be a very busy year too!
Lauren is a fantastic, and humbling, example to everyone considering a New Year's resolution; whether to lose weight, improve fitness, or simply step out of one's comfort zone and make a radical difference to their life.
